Over the next coming weeks we would have been looking at the following topics in Maths:

  • count in jumps of 2s, 5s and 10s (we would spend 3-4 weeks covering this in class)

Count, read and write numbers to 100 in numerals ; count in multiples of twos, fives and tens

  • add one digit to two digit numbers to 20 (we would spend 2 weeks covering this in class)
  • subtract one digit from two digit numbers to 20 (we would spend 3 weeks covering this in class)

Add and Subtract one digit and two digit numbers to 20 including zero

  • find 1/2 and 1/4 of an object shape or amount (we would spend two weeks covering this in class)

Recognise, find and name a half as one part of two equal parts of an object, shape or quantity.

Recognise, find and name a quarter as one of two equal parts of an object, shape or quantity.

  • Tell the time in hours and half past the hour. Draw these times on a clock face. (2 week unit)

Religious Education (RE)

Our current topic in RE is Following Jesus. 

Next week (w/c 23/9/2020) we would have been covering the the following

Good Friday - Know that Jesus dies on Good Friday but that is not the end of the story. Think about when sad news turns into good news.

After Easter our RE topic is The Resurrection 

In our topic we will cover- 

  • Week 1) Easter- Know that we celbrate the Ressurection of Jesus at Easter. Reflect on how we do this
  • Week 2) Jesus rose from the dead- Know that Jesus rose from the dead on the first Easter Sunday. Reflect on what this means for us. 
  • Week 3) Jesus appears to the Disciples- Know that Jesus appeared to the disciples in the Upper Room. Think about times when we have expenienced big suprises. 
  • Week 4) Jesus eats with the Disciples- Know that Jesus helped the disciples to understand that he was alive. Think about how happy everybody was to see him. 
  • Week 5) Jesus and Thomas- Know that Thomas did not belive Jesus was alive. Reflect on the times when we don't understand what is happening. 
  • Week 6) Jesus returns to heaven- Know that Jesus returned to heaven after forty days. Reflect on the promises he made to us.

The children should be reading every day. We would recommend two sessions of around 10 minutes each. Please listen to them read out-loud as often as possible and discuss any vocabulary that they are not sure of.

Phonics and spellings

By the end of Year 1 children should know all of the sounds up to Phase 5.

Phonics play is a fantastic website that we use in school it has lots of fun, interactive engaging games and activities that your children can enjoy at home. Our phonics sessions last 30 minutes in school.
