Pupils should be taught to:

    • writing narratives about personal experiences and those of others (real and fictional)
    • writing about real events

    • writing for different purposes
  • consider what they are going to write before beginning by:
    • planning or saying out loud what they are going to write about
    • writing down ideas and/or key words, including new vocabulary
    • encapsulating what they want to say, sentence by sentence
  • make simple additions, revisions and corrections to their own writing by:
    • evaluating their writing with the teacher and other pupils
    • rereading to check that their writing makes sense and that verbs to indicate time are used correctly and consistently, including verbs in the continuous form

Religious Education (RE)

Year 1

Our current topic in RE is Following Jesus. 

Over the next few weeks, we would have been covering the following:

Good Friday - Know that Jesus dies on Good Friday but that is not the end of the story. Think about when sad news turns into good news. 

After Easter our RE topic is The Resurrection 

In our topic we will cover:

  • Week 1 – Easter – Know that we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus at Easter. Reflect on how we do this.
  • Week 2 – Jesus rose from the dead – Know that Jesus rose from the dead on the first Easter Sunday. Reflect on what this means for us. 
  • Week 3 – Jesus appears to the Disciples – Know that Jesus appeared to the disciples in the Upper Room. Think about times when we have experienced big surprises. 
  • Week 4 – Jesus eats with the Disciples – Know that Jesus helped the disciples to understand that he was alive. Think about how happy everybody was to see him. 
  • Week 5 – Jesus and Thomas – Know that Thomas did not believe Jesus was alive. Reflect on the times when we do not understand what is happening. 
  • Week 6 – Jesus returns to heaven – Know that Jesus returned to heaven after forty days. Reflect on the promises he made to us.

Times Tables


 


Children are expected to know all of their tables up to 12 x 12 and associated division facts by the end of Year 4. Please ensure that the children keep their recall skills sharp. Please click on the logo to access the website.
 

Reading
The children should be reading every day. We would recommend two sessions of around 10 minutes each. Please listen to them read out-loud as often as possible and discuss any vocabulary that they are not sure of.
