Puffin Year 1 & 2 2018 - 2019

Year 1 and 2

The Team

Class: 1/2B

Teacher: Mrs Bullock

Teaching Assistant: Miss Barton

Welcome to the Puffin's class page.  Here you will find lots of important information about our class.

About Class 1/2

Year 1 – Mary, the Mother of God

The children will learn that God sent the Angel Gabriel with a message

to Mary and learn why this is important. They will learn that God asked

Mary to be the mother of his son and will have an opportunity to reflect

on her response.

They will hear about Mary’s visit to her cousin, Elizabeth and reflect on the good news. They will begin to reflect on how we can prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus and learn that Mary is our mother in heaven and that she is looking after us.

At home

You could help your children by:

reinforcing why Mary is important for Christians

discussing the importance of mothers

Year 2 – Mysteries

“God is one and God is Three, a Trinity of persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit

Religious Education Curriculum Directory

The children will learn about and reflect on mysteries. They will be encouraged to say and reflect on what they wonder about. The children will learn that there are three persons in one God and that we can experience God in three different ways as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

They will learn about and reflect on God’s choice of Mary and Joseph and know that Jesus is God’s gift to the whole world.

At home

You could help your children by:

reminding them, as they make the sign of the cross, that God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit

reading the Christmas story and encourage them to ask questions

Educational visits

We enrich our curriculum by arranging the following:

* A visit to our Parish church: Holy Apostles and St Martyrs.

* Prayer trails- Advent prayer trail and Lent prayer trail.

* A visit from a Chester Zoo ranger who came to talk to the children at school.

* Year 2 taking part in a dance programme which they will perform at the Floral Pavilion in the summer 2 term.

Reminders

Please ensure that you write your child's name in all their belongings, including PE Kit and shoes.  It can be costly in both time and money when this is not done.

Please ensure your child brings a water bottle to school every day.

Don’t forget to read with your child regularly.

PE

Our PE day is on a Tuesday. Year 1 are practising throwing and catching skills and playing some team games. Year 2 are taking part in a fantastic dance programme. The dance that they are creating is based around our Literacy book 'The Black Hat' which we have read in class. They will perform this dance at the Floral Pavilion in the summer 2 term.

All children should have a white t-shirt, black/navy shorts and black pumps. For health and safety reasons, children cannot wear jewellery for PE, so all children need to either be able to remove their earrings or they should be removed in the morning before school.

Reading Books

Lots of children are still changing their books every day and we have seen a massive improvement in their reading attainment.  Books should be changed at least once a week.  Remember the more we read, the better we will become at reading.

Blue Book Bags

Blue book bags are sent home on a Friday and will contain a free choice book. This should be enjoyed at your leisure.

Homework

Homework will be sent out on a Friday and returned by the following Thursday.  Homework is used to consolidate their learning from that week. Your child will receive literacy/spelling homework each week. Grammar homework is sent home every other week. Maths homework is sent home by unit and is sent back after completion. Please support your child with their homework but let them attempt it independently.

We cover a variety of fun topics throughout the year and may ask your child to bring in items from home to support these.
