Mental Health and Wellbeing

Welcome!

All of us at Ss. Peter and Paul are absolutely committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our whole school community - pupils, parents, carers and staff. We recognise how important mental health and emotional wellbeing is to all of our lives in the same way as our physical health is.

We recognise that mental health and wellbeing has a huge impact on children’s learning and achievement, as well as their quality of life in general.

We also understand that everybody experiences challenges in life that can make us more vulnerable at times, and we will always try to offer the support to our school community during those times. Promoting positive mental health is everybody’s business and we all have a role to play.  Please use the links at the bottom of this page, or those under the "Mental Health and Wellbeing" tab on the homepage to visit specific pages.

At our school we:

  • Work with children to help them to understand their emotions and feelings better
  • Encourage children to be open, honest and confident in talking about their emotions
  • Help children to create and maintain positive relationships
  • Promote self-esteem and ensure children know that they are all important to us
  • Encourage children to see their own strengths and talents, and recognise those of others
  • Help children to develop emotional and academic resilience

We do this in a range of ways:

Whole-school Support - To meet the needs of all our pupils through our overall ethos and our wider curriculum. Just some examples of this include:

  • We encourage a positive mindset approach to learning – the power of yet
  • Our PSHE curriculum teaches about healthy relationships
  • We offer yoga sessions across the school

Additional support- For those who may have short-term needs and those who may have been made more vulnerable by life experiences.

  • We are proud to offer the ELSA program in our school. More information is available here
  • We work closely with Caritas Schools’ Services to offer 1-2-1 support sessions
  • We offer lunchtime social and self-esteem support sessions with specially trained staff
  • We have trained “mental health first aiders” who are available whenever needed during the school day
